Went for a fantastic run this morning with Andrew and Greg! God it was way too hot though, so Monday we will try to get out much earlier and avoid the heat. Now its time for a nice family BBQ and some great news from Rebecca:-)

I don't often teach beginners but this morning Stephan the manager at the Sainte Maxime course asked me if I could help them out with a group of beginners. In fact it was a group of Germans staying at the hotel Plaza who just wanted to give golf a bit of a try.

Group photo after the lesson and they still looked pretty happy!! I even think that some of them might just carry on when they get home.

How things have changed - The Sainte Maxime GC under construction 1988

The Sainte Maxime golf course opened in August 1991 and was designed by golf architects Harridean and son. These photos, which were taken circa 1988, show the ground work and lay out of the course during the construction.The photos were given to me by Mr Richard Blesius who was the site manager at the time. He was not only responsible for the construction of the course but also the ground work of the real estate project which was built at the same time. I first met Richard back in 1991 when I was directer of golf at the Sainte Maxime GC, who would have know then that 20 years later we would be playing golf every week and I would be teaching him to play golf.

A day in the country

Today it was a bank holiday in France so we decided to head away from the crowds on the coast and spend the day in the country. Our destination was Cotignac a really pretty little village in the centre of the Var which is quite popular with Brits, when we got there it was easy to see why! Imagine what a truly Provencial village should look well that's Cotignac. Check out more here

This afternoon I took Lady out in the back country for a 'sniff' about. I say 'sniff' about because the last few weeks she has been faithfully running along side me on my morning runs and hasn't really had the time to have a good doggy 'sniff' about. Admittedly she has got super fit, but every dog likes, and needs to get their nose to the ground and take in all those lovely smells.

Finished the school

We finished the the last morning of the school today with some bunker practice and a solid driving session.
It was great to see the girls again and as usual we had a great time with
loads of laughs.

A putting tip from the pro's

There is nothing worse then missing short putts, you the know the one's the 3 to 4 feet knee tremblers! A truly useful and efficient way of setting up correctly to these and in fact any putts is to point the manufactures name at where you want to aim your putter face and then set up around it.

Start by pointing the manufactures name, in this case its a straight putt so Marielle is pointing it to the middle of the hole.

Now set the putting face at right angles, and the feet, hips, arms and shoulders parallel to the manufactures name.

Now you know you are aiming correctly you can putt with more confidence and start making more of those nasty little putts.

The Dutch girls are here for their annual golf school. Well Marielle, Ester and Karen are here, unfortunately Marika could't make this year as she is recovering from a knee operation. We had a great morning on the practice area working on their swing and short game. I have to say working with my new Ipad and the V1 swing analyser is just such a brilliant asset and so easy to use compared with using a lap top. Tomorrow more of the same but will also be practicing from sloped lies.
